St. Basil's Feast Day is on Jan 2. St. Basil was a friend of the poor, and in an attempt to keep the wicked Emperor away, he convinced the rich men of the district to contribute all their jewels. When he presented them to the emperor's soldier, the soldier was so moved that he did not accept the jewels, and the people were saved. St. Basil did not know which jewels belonged to who, so he baked cakes and hid the jewels inside. It is said that everyone recieved the jewels which had originally belonged to him.
