So I got
this awesome idea to make little books out of fig newtons from Jessica at
Shower of Roses, and I knew I had to try it! (Also, Jessica's having a rough week, so say a little prayer for her if you can).
So here they are!
How to Make Little Edible Bibles:
Start with a fig newton, and trim off one long side with a sharp knife. This makes it look like your "book" has the edges of paper showing on 3 sides, and binding on the forth side. I also then shortened them a little because this made them too narrow. My kids graciously took care of the scraps for me ;-)
The "bookmarks" are made from red fruit roll ups. Cut them in the shape of a bookmark with a sharp knife, then stick them into the 'fig goo' with a toothpick. The pieces of fruit roll up I used were about as long as my thumbnail.
It was very easy to stick these bookmarks in, but a little challenging to cut out the fruit roll ups.
Finish the bible by decorating the cover and binding with icing.
I love crafting with my food so much more than cooking (which isn't my strong point) so easy little snacks like this that I don't have to bake are just perfect for me! Wouldn't this be such a cute snack for vacation bible school? Or bible study? Or 10,000 other occasions, like our upcoming "B" week? In case you can't tell, I really like these :-)
