Printable Lenten Calendar for Children

I made this printable Lenten calendar for kids this week. It's a fun visual for kids so they can see the 40 days of lent of lent going by, and Easter approaching. I left room in the squares to write in daily prayers or sacrifices if desired. The important days are brought to special attention with fun visuals for kids that symbolize what's going on that day, and little fish symbolize days to avoid meat (although children are not required to do this). I also love how it shows kids that Sundays are not included in the 40 days of lent.

Here are some dates you might want to add to your calendar. (Lent can start as early at Feb 4, and end as late as April 25, so all of these dates will not fall during every lent).

*UPDATED TO SAY* This post is from 2010, so these are NOT the correct dates to add for this year's calendar! The printable Lenten calendar is good for every year because I didn't include any actual dates on the printable version. The calendar pictured above already has some of these things written in, but they aren't on the printable version. I hope this helps to clear up some confusion.
  • St. Agatha- February 5
  • Our Lady of Lourdes- February 11
  • St. Valentine- February 14
  • Chair of St. Peter the Apostle- Feb 22 (If you write in this day, the liturgical color is white.)
  • St. Patrick- March 17
  • St. Joseph- March 19 (If you write in this day, the liturgical color is white.)
  • Spring Begins (March 19 or 20)
  • Annunciation of the Lord- March 25 (If you write in this day, the liturgical color is white.)
  • St. George- April 23
I hope you enjoy this Lenten activity for kids! I think these would be great to print for a CCD class, or just hang on your refrigerator! Just have the kids mark off the days as they go by :-)

  12. Hi! I'm writing from Italy where I live (sorry about my bad englih...). Your blog is very interesting. I translated the calendar in Italian, so that I can use it with my children in Parish. I also post it on my blog.(http://idrperpassione.blogspot.com/2010/02/due-proposte-per-la-quaresima-forse-piu.html) Thank you!
Why aren't Sundays included in the 40 days of Lent? I believe that Lent finishes on Palm Sunday and does not include The Holy Week... However, thank you for sharing your work with us!

  17. When I try to download and print the calendar, I get an error message that say "You've reached the bandwidth limit for viewing or downloading files that aren't in Google Docs format. Please try again later."

This would be a great thing to do with our kids this Lent. If you can help out with this glitch, contact me at ardgowan@comcast.net. Thanks!

  24. Awesome calendar...I kept trying to download the calendar from Catholic Mom and I was not successful. I'm glad I wasn't successful because that's how I found yours, and I used it for the 30 children in Children's Liturgy of the Word today!

I printed the calendar on a big 11x18 sheet, and I taped a piece of bubblegum on the bottom with the following words:
"I,_________________, plan to resist the temptation to chew this gum for 40 days just as Jesus resisted temptations in the desert for 40 days.

I plan to happily chew this gum on Easter Sunday as I celebrate Jesus' Resurrection from the dead!

hmmm...hope this helps the precious children grow to love our Lord more and more...
Thank you again for a super calendar!

then unexpectedly a horrible feeling I had not expressed respect to the

Appreciate your really being really thoughtful and then for choosing this sort of very

The fitness vacation - Whenever vacation is referred to,
most of would think enjoying tropical foods, sitting beside the pool, drinking, and partying all night.
Just like with the above diet tips, you want to make sure that each fitness tip
