Most Precious Blood of Jesus Craft

I found this craft over at Under Her Starry Mantle. I really love Anne's blog! For this craft, she has a prayer for the Most Precious Blood of Jesus that is in the shape of a drop. July is the month dedicated to the Most Precious Blood of Jesus, and you still have plenty of time to pray! :-)

Wine Cup-O Jell-O

July is the month of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus. Celebrating with the kids can be as easy as mixing up some red jello!

You can get plastic wine glasses at the Dollar Tree. These were made for my little brother's first communion, so they also had marshmallow slice "hosts". Just pour in the jello into the wine cups when it's liquid and let it set up in the cups.

Adding marshmallow slice "hosts" after the jello is firm is optional.
Kids think this is super cool, and it's sure to put a smile on their face!

Mary Magdalen Feast Day Ideas

Mary Magdalen's feast day is coming up on July 22. When she met Jesus, she was sorry for her sinful ways, and used her long beautiful hair to clean his feet- then anointed them with expensive perfume. She was present at our Lord's crucifixion, and at the empty tomb. Here are some ideas to help you celebrate her feast day :-)

Try making some simple rose perfume in
memory of Mary Magdalen anointing Jesus' feet.
Or bake some Empty Tomb rolls. They're
super yummy and easy to make!

Mary Magdalen is the patron saint of hairdressers, so try
out a fun hair style for the day! Here's a blog totally
devoted to cute hair styles with great pictures and directions!

Or, try making these "hair raising" cupcakes.
Are these too cute, or what?!

Catholic Scapular Crafts & DIYs

The scapular is made from brown wool rectangles, and it's worn around the neck. It was given to St. Simon by Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. It's a sacramental with history dating back to the Old Testament, and Our Lady makes promises to those who wear it, including "Whoever dies wearing this Scapular shall not suffer eternal fire". That's a pretty awesome promise. Click here to read more about it. Here are some scapular crafts to help you celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel coming up on July 16!

Anne from Under Her Starry Mantel has tips on how
to extend the life of your scapular, and how to make
keep a miraculous medal from falling off.

Have your kids use paper bags to make this Scapular Craft
over on Our Little Catholic Corner.

Just Another Day in Paradise- she says they really hold up!

from Cottage Blessings- cute!

I think durable home made scapulars would make a great Catholic gift for any sacraments, Easter, or any occasion really. Happy Catholic crafting!

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel- Sweet Treats

The Feast of Our Lady of Mr. Carmel is coming up on July 16. Our Lady appeared to St. Simon on Mount Carmel and handed the brown woolen scapular to him. Wearing the scapular comes with many promises from Our Lady, and some Catholics choose to wear it all the time. To read more about the story and promises of the scapular, check out Garment of Grace- it's a great free read!

Here are some fun "Sweet Treats" to help you celebrate this awesome feast day!

On Sweetness & Light, they made some
"Mount Caramels" of their own!

Find this Amazing Scapular Cake on
Under Her Starry Mantel. No baking or icing
skills required- honest!

over on Bless Us O Lord.

I love this idea of making Scapular Brownies!
Find these at Just Another Day in Paradise.

Or you can really make Carmel anything, like these

Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha- Feast Day July 14

Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha was a Native American who was Christian, against the wishes of her tribe and uncle. She has an amazing story! Here are some fun ways to celebrate her upcoming feast day:

Try crafting these teepeees with That Artist Woman.
She has a template!

from Catholic Online. I love these!

from St. John the Baptist Church- these are just
beautiful and a great free resource! Scroll down past the stations.

Check out these comic book pages about
Blessed Kateri at Treasure Chest of Fun & Fact.

I loved these God's Eyes- they look very
Native American with the feathers, yet they're Christian.
I thought it might be neat given Blessed Kateri's story.

Blessed Kateri seems to always be holding a cross made
from sticks in her pictures, so I thought it would be really cool to
make a stick crucifix like this on from Growing with my Girls!

And here are some free printable Native American
paper dolls- maybe give her a cross! ;-)

By the way, I'm not pretending to know anything about the particular tribe Blessed Kateri came from. For all I know, they didn't live in teepees- although there are pictures of teepees in the comic book pages about her... Lol!

July- Month of the Most Precious Blood

Before I started this blog, I didn't know that every month was the "month of something"- really, I didn't! But being Catholic is just so much cooler than I ever knew it was! Anyway, the month of July is the month of the Most Precious Blood. So I was trying to think of something that might be fun to celebrate, and I immediately thought of  blood oranges! :-) Here are some fun Summer recipes you can try with blood oranges this July!

There's a Newf in my Soup.

52 Kitchen Adventures has a recipe for

What I really want to try is this
Blood Orange Sorbet from Culinary Concoctions- Yummy!

Don't miss this opportunity to read some Prayers in honor of Chirst's Precious Blood. Enjoy your liturgical cooking!

How to Make Patriotic Beads- a Picture Turtorial!

So when Sarah (the Clay Rosary Girl) left my house, I just couldn't stop making beads! So I made a bunch of red, white, and blue ones. They are a lot of fun to make because they have such high contrast, and they're really cheery! Once you make them, you can use them for religious necklaces, bracelets, rosaries- whatever! (I did not make the letter beads.)

I used Sculpey for making mine, although any polymer clay will work. You can get sculpey at any craft store- in fact I think you can get it at Wal-Mart! It's great for kids and adults! But use a cutting board for working because it will ruin your finish. I seriously don't care about my table- I have already ruined it with past crafts. Lol! So here's my picture tutorial on making your own patriotic beads.

Making Star Shaped Polymer Clay Beads:
1. Take some white clay and make 5 triagular "prism" shapes by pinching with your thumb and first finger while "smooshing" the clay against the table for the 3rd side. Also, make one fatter round coil.
 2. Arrange the prisms around the coil as evenly spaced as possible, and stick them on firmly. Then trim off the edges to make all the ends even.
3. Make 5 more long triangluar prisms with some blue clay, and fit them in between the spikes of the star pointing inward.
 4. Make a nice big flat pancake with some more blue clay by rolling it out, and wrap your star cane inside.
 5. Trim the edges to make everything even again.
 6. Roll the cane with your hand until it is the desired size for your bead. Be sure to do this slowly and evenly so you don't distort your shape too much.
 7. Slice it into beads about 1/4 inch thick.
 8. Put holes through your beads using a paper clip, or whatever you want.
 9. Bake according to package directions.

Making Patriotic Stripes Beads:
1. Roll out your red and white clay.
 2. Stack the clay and trim the edges to make them both the same size of rectangle. Cut this in half and stack it on top of each other again. Then slice it four times.
 3. Rearrange the four pieces into your desired design.
 4. Press the cane smaller into a square rather than rolling it into a tube. You can also flatten it with your fingers and keep flipping it on different sides as you go. Finish up as you did with your star beads.

Here's a patriotic "jelly roll" bead. I just stacked red white and blue, then rolled it jelly roll style! Use your hand to roll it out to your desired bead size.

Here's a variation on the stripes to make a little flag. Just rearrange your stripes differently, then add a blue square to the corner. Roll it out as you do with square beads.

When you bake them, try not to burn them. Unless you want a really cool "antiqued" look. That's what I did. Burnt them on purpose. *eyes shifting*. Ya. Purpose.... (Ok, I've only ever claimed to be an artist, not a chef!)

They did come out kind of cool.

Use them to string whatever you want!
We made a "God Bless America" necklace:

"In God We Trust" bracelet:
Yes, I even made a rosary!
To make the round beads that I used for the "Our Father's", just slice the beads off the cane really thin. Then make a ball with your clay, and stick the thin slices of bead on all the way around. Next just roll it gently in your hands again until it is smooth!

Hope you guys have as much fun with this as I have! Be careful- making beads is totally addictive! ;-)
