Our Lady of Sorrows Crafts

The month of September is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows, and the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows is September 15. Earlier I rounded up coloring pages for each of Our Lady's 7 Sorrows, and today I'm sharing some crafts I found on awesome Catholic blogs :-)

This Our Lady of Sorrows Craft was made by
Filled with Joy. You don't need any special supplies for this one.

Knotty Pine Trails made this really cool
Our Lady of Sorrows Craft and posted excellent
directions on making it yourself. I love this craft!

Our Domestic Church made this
Our Lady of Sorrows Bookmark and shares the template.
I love how the beads stand for Mary's tears!

Gray Family Circus shares a year's worth of Liturgical Crafts,

Bless Us O Lord made This Cake for Our Lady.

Mary told St. Bridget that 7 graces would be granted to those who say 7 Hail Mary's each day reflecting on her 7 sorrows. You can read about these 7 graces over on Lord, Make Me a Saint. They are wonderful graces, and very comforting to read.

Celebrate Michaelmas - St. Michael and all the Archangels!

Michaelmas comes every year on September 29. It is the feast day of St. Michael, St. Gabriel, St. Raphael, and well- basically the Archangels :-) When getting ready to celebrate Michaelmas with your kids, think "tough angels". Because that's what archangels are. Save your "fluffy angel" ideas for the feast of Guardian Angels in October.

I love this Angel Mobile Craft from Bountiful Blessings.
If you're not crafts enough to cut the pieces out like she did,

from Catholic Kingdom.

They made these Archangel Candle Crafts over
on Sweetness and Light.
on Coloring Saints.

Waltzing Matilda has Archangel Coloring Sheets
for Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael.
(These colored versions from Bountiful Blessings).

Domestic Church has a St. Michael Cross Stitch Pattern
with the prayer of St. Michael.

Some food ideas could include having angel food cake, angel hair pasta, or "angel wings" (aka buffalo wings). You could also go in the opposite direction and serve deviled eggs or devil's food cake. Bountiful Blessings made this archangel cake in celebration of Michaelmas.

You could also decorate a cake with a small St. Michael or other angel statue, or stand up a laminated holy card in your cake. Enjoy celebrating Michaelmas!

Ideas for Celebrating the Feast of St. Padre Pio

St. Padre Pio has a feast day coming up on September 23. If I were to rank St. Padre Pio on a popularity scale from 1-10, I would give him a 10! He sure seems to be a 'crowd pleaser', and there's no question as to why if you read about St. Padre Pio. The most famous thing about him is his stigmata. Well, that and his fist fights with demons and levitating and all kinds of crazy cool stuff :-) Anyway, here are some feast day ideas for celebrating with your kids:

Ok, call me crazy, but I love these Stigmata Rice Krispie Treats
from Family at the Foot of the Cross

My Little Flower made a St. Padre Pio Lapbook.

over on Catholic Online.

Waltzing Matilda has 2 St. Padre Pio Coloring Sheets!
These were colored by Keeper of the Keys

Find a St. Padre Pio Spoon Craft over on
Cottage Blessings. He's standing with St. Francis here.

I really want to find time to celebrate St. Padre Pio's feast day with my kids this year! I love these little spoon saints and I would like to make a whole slew of them... I mean ... I want my kids to make a whole slew of them. ;-)

Cross Crafts for Kids

The feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross (or Triumph of the cross) is coming up on September 14. So here's a round up of cross crafts for celebrating this day with your kids! :-)

Memories of a Catholic Wife and Mother has directions
for this Cross Craft they made for this day! Cute!

My daughter and I are going to try crafting these
Cross Necklaces this year. I'll let you know how it

The Willcutt Girls. So colorful!

Find directions for crafting these
beaded crosses with Kaboose.

Kaboose also has directions for making

from Kaboose, too. So much cute stuff!

Also, you can find a former Cross Craft post on Catholic Icing. :-)

Nativity of Mary

The feast of the Nativity of Mary is coming up on September 8, which means... Happy Birthday Mother Mary!!! **cue horns blowing and confetti flying through air**

So the most obvious idea for celebrating this feast day is to make a birthday cake for Mary. Anything blue is a great idea since that's Mary's traditional color.

You can decorate your cake with candles, like Sweetness and Light
and don't forget to put out your Mary statue!

At These Thy Gifts, they pulled out all their normal family
traditions for birthdays, including the special birthday
plate and this funny hat! :-)

But here's my favorite idea for celebrating this day with the kiddos-
Our Little Catholic Corner put out a "Baby Mary" doll for their
table centerpiece. What a great visualization for kids! Love it!

Now who wants to join me in singing to Our Lady? All together now!
"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Mary, happy birthday to you!!!"
