Catholic ABC's is going very well in the preschool co-op I teach! My room is for 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 year olds, and I have 9 of them. I thought this craft was really great for them because stringing is a very good fine motor activity for this age group. I also had all the materials in a baggie ahead of time and had them remove each color of bead as I called it out, so it was good color practice for them, too!

Materials Needed to Complete This Craft:

• Ribbon
• Pony Beads (assorted colors)
• Small crosses or crucifixes (I ordered mine from Autom and got them for .09 cents each)

 For prep, I cut all the ribbons to the desired length, and made a double knot on one end. On the other end I cut the ribbon to a sharp point to help for bead stringing. I put the ribbon, beads, and crucifies in individual baggies (one per child).

Each child has a baggie. Get them to first string on their crucifix. Then ask them all to take out their blue bead and string it on. As they string it on explain to them how the blue bead stands for the water of our baptism. Continue with each bead. (The red bead stands for Christ's blood, white for prayer, yellow for the golden streets of heaven, and green for growing in our faith.)

When they have strung them all on, make another knot at the end of the beads for them (or let older kids do this themselves) and then show them how it works as a bookmark for their bible!
